This is a tiny snapshot of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. While it’s precise size is unknown, scientists estimate it to be twice the size of Texas.
90% of it is plastic, of which about 100% of it is non-biodegradable.
Some parts of it go 80 feet deep.
It’s not exactly all of our trash. It’s estimated that for every bag of garbage we put out on the curb, there were 70 bags of garbage required to produce the waste we end up chucking out the door.
Thirty years ago the Great Pacific Garbage Patch didn’t exist. We’ve created an entirely new continent since then.
Humans are capable of extraordinary things, but is this what it’s come to?
