You might have asked yourself how on earth we created an 8th continent, places like shopping beach, and norms like purchasing 62 pounds of clothing a year

One potentially defining moment is the above image from the 1955 issue of LIFE magazine with the caption ‘THROW AWAY LIVING’. The story inaugurated a new era of disposable living, with less chores and more convenience. With it began the demise of repair shops and the rise of a ‘rip & replace‘ mantra.

Retail corporations and economists had found their answer to making consumption as a way of life. Throwaway products forced customers to return and offered endless profit potential.

And here we are.
